Elisa Blázquez: El Encanto de la mujer madura
The author of this first series of photographs – and the second one, to be published soon – is the journalist and writer Elisa Blázquez Zarcero. The models are some of her friends, a group of women who are married, divorced, single and widows, all working and independent, who maintain a frequent social and friendly relationship with each other under the name of “Las Viernes”.
El encanto de la mujer madura is a photographic project that takes as a pretext the breast cancer in a woman, showing a breast and in the attitude of a professional model, to her friends, claiming her beauty and that of all older women.
All this happens in the city of Cáceres in Spain, where our protagonists live and where they play a fruitful citizen and social role, including political, artistic, cultural and humanitarian activism. The photographs have been taken on the terrace of the author’s home, with the minimum elements necessary for its realization.
The idea of the author is to manifest the beauty of women who have already fulfilled a certain age. The idea happen with the breast cancer operation of one of them. Before undergoing reconstructive surgery, she agreed to pose for Elisa showing her injured chest. Immediately, out of solidarity and sympathy, the rest of the friends began to pose in the same way.
According to the author, the main goal of the project is a matter of transmitting a simple message of solidarity and vindication of one’s own feminine beauty at maturity; beauty in fullness despite the years.
